Women WTA Final Showdown 22'- The Great Eight Candidates

Everything is BIG in Texas. This year Texas is hosting Women’s Tennis Association Finals tournament for the first time…

The WTA finals of 2022, now formally named “Hologic WTA Tour”, will be the 50th tournament since it was founded in 1972, 50 years ago. It is the Women’s Tennis Association tournament played annually at the end of the season. The eight top ranking players will compete in the event with prize money of $ 5,000,000. This event has the biggest prize money and ranking points after the four slam majors.

Back in 1984 to 1998, the WTA final was a best-of-five-sets match at any round of the competition and reverted to being a best-of-three match in 1999.

Lately, there have been eight qualified singles players divided into two round-robin groups, and also eight qualified doubles teams. In a single round-robin, each player plays every other player in the group once. At the end of the round, the player who wins the most gets the most points. The winner and runner-up of the group by accumulated points will advance to the semi final round. In the semi final, the winner of the first group will play the runner-up of the second group and vice versa. The semi final winners will compete in the final for the Championship.

WTA players have to compete in more than 50 tournaments throughout the year and throughout the world, as well as the four Grand Slam of the year in order to collect as many points as possible to be qualified in the top eight and all results from throughout the year also count towards a player’s ranking. The total points are calculated from 16 tournaments as follows:

- The four Grand Slam tournaments

-The four WTA 1000 tournaments with 1000 point for the winner

-The best results from two WTA 1000 tournaments with 900 points maximum

-The best results from 6 other countable tournaments

The race to the WTA final 2022 came to the end last week with very interesting results from 17 potential players competing for the five remaining spots in the last tournament prior to the event. At Guadalajara, Mexico, where the last tournament of the season took place, 7 players have secured their spots toward the quarter final round but the last one to be decided between Maria Sakkari and Veronika Kudermetova. Finally, Sakkari won the match to clinch the last spot for the Hologic WTA Tour’s season ending finale. The event will be in Fort Worth, Texas, next week from October 31 to November 7. The eight players are as follow:

1. Iga Swiatek

2. Ons Jabeur

3. Jessica Pegula

4. Coco Gauff

5. Maria Sakkari

6. Caroline Garcia

7. Aryna Sabalenka

8. Daria Kasatkina

The hefty prize money pool this year will set the undefeated player to win the toal of 1.68 Million, In addition to 1500+ Point to the resume. As always, OhCamp will review the predicted result prior to the semi, and final match. Stay tune!!
